Animal Health Camp at Purangang village, Marngar, Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya

        The Animal Health Camp organized at Purangang village, Marngar, Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya, on 25th January 2024, by the ICAR Research Complex for NEH region, Umiam, Meghalaya, was a significant initiative aimed at addressing the healthcare needs of livestock and poultry in the region. Led by a team of experienced scientists and researchers, the camp provided crucial veterinary services and information to the local farmers.
        Dr. Rahul Katiyar, from the Division of Animal and Fisheries Science, delivered enlightening sessions on the importance of deworming and vaccination in livestock and poultry. The farmers were educated about the prevention of various parasitic, bacterial, and viral diseases through proper deworming and vaccination protocols. Special emphasis was given to the significance of vaccination in pigs and poultry against diseases such as Swine Fever, Ranikhet disease, Fowl pox, and Marek’s disease.
        A total of 26 farmers from different villages (Lalumpam, Borgang, Nongagang, Nalapara, Mawphrew, Umtham, Sarikhusi, Purangang, and Borkhatsari) participated in the program.
        Furthermore, the farmers received guidance on the appropriate proportions of supplementary feed required for their animals to ensure optimal health and productivity. Inputs in the form of veterinary medicines, including anthelmintics, vitamins and mineral supplements, antidiarrhoeal, antibiotics, acaricides, and topical creams, were distributed among the farmers to facilitate their healthcare practices.
        The participants were encouraged to implement regular deworming and vaccination schedules for their birds, thereby enhancing the overall well-being and productivity of their livestock. The camp witnessed active participation from the farmers, who expressed appreciation for the invaluable knowledge and resources provided.
        The Animal Health Camp at Purangang village yielded positive outcomes, with participating livestock farmers receiving essential veterinary services and information. By disseminating knowledge on proper healthcare practices and providing necessary inputs, the camp contributed significantly to the enhancement of animal health and agricultural productivity in the region. The initiative not only addressed immediate healthcare needs but also empowered the farmers with the tools and knowledge required for sustainable livestock management.
        Overall, the camp served as a vital platform for knowledge exchange and capacity building, fostering stronger connections between researchers and farmers for the collective benefit of the agricultural community in Meghalaya.
